Auto refreshing ads | AdSense Program Policies

Hi, everyone. My name is Chris, and I'm part of our external outreach efforts representing the Trust and Safety Team. My role is to help you, our publishers, better understand our policies and publisher restrictions.

And more importantly, I also work with our internal teams to help them better understand the challenges you face. Today, I'd like to talk about our auto-refreshing ads policy, which includes redirects and timers. When we create policies and publisher restrictions, we try to consider the needs of users, advertisers, and publishers.

So why did we create this policy? We realized that sometimes users leave tabs open for long periods of time, perhaps even overnight. Unfortunately, when this happens, ads can auto refresh and run over, and over, and over again. Specifically, publishers are not permitted to alter the behavior of Google Ads in any way. This includes playing ads on pages, or apps, or in placements that auto-redirect or auto-refresh, displaying ads for a preset time, pre-roll, before users can view things such as videos, games, or downloads. And publishers are not permitted to refresh a page or an element of the page where the user is requesting a refresh. So who benefits from this policy? Ultimately, the ecosystem benefits.

We strive to create policies and publish restrictions that benefit the ecosystem as a whole. And in this case, advertisers lose trust in the digital market if their ads are refreshed without genuine intent by a user. Additionally, publishers who follow the rules benefit, as they are not competing for ad dollars with publishers that inflate the numbers artificially. All of our policies and publisher restrictions are designed and enforced to build trust in the digital advertising ecosystem.

The future of Google and our partners are linked. And we believe in fostering an environment where users, advertisers, and publishers can all thrive in a healthy digital advertising ecosystem. And by valuing each party, we help ensure the sustainability of our industry. We hope this video helps you better understand our policy for auto-refreshing ads.

And you can find more videos explaining our policies and publisher restrictions within the playlist on our channel. Thank you.

Encouraging accidental clicks | AdSense Program Policies Google AdSense

Hi, everyone. My name is John, and I lead our external outreach efforts, representing the Trust and Safety Team. My role is to help you, our publishers, better understand our policies and publisher restrictions.    And, importantly, I also work with our internal teams to help them better understand the challenges you face. Today, I'd like to talk about our publisher policy around implementations that encourage clicks. First off, why do we care about this? We're always working to facilitate a healthy digital advertising ecosystem.    Importantly, this means we create policies and publisher restrictions to help ensure that our users, advertisers and publishers are protected and can trust in that ecosystem. This works best when users click on ads from genuine interest on sites with valuable content. When publishers encourage users to click on ads in hopes of making money, the users' clicks are not out of genuine interest in the ads.  If we allow ...
